This Petition is to call for our Councillors to make publicly know their position on the issue of Mayor re-election. It now turns out that there is no policy, procedure, standing order or any other document that prevents the mayor from continuing consecutive years which has been the case way back in history. Kristina has worked tirelessly for our community over several years including her current role as Mayor. We the undersigned request at the Monthly Council meeting to make their position know to the public should they be in office when the vote will be taken at the AGM in May 2027.

Growing up in Withernsea, a once vibrant town, I've witnessed the ups and downs of our community, but it wasn't until Kristina Richardson became mayor that I saw true progress and unity. Mayor Kristina has been a beacon of hope and transformation, bringing about positive changes that have enriched the lives of countless residents. Support for local businesses, local charities, and a focus on community well-being are just a few hallmarks of her incredible tenure. It's disheartening, Withernsea Town Council has stagnated, overlooking the needs and desires of the people. Their decision to change the re-election process is particularly troubling, as it bars Mayor Kristina from continuing her invaluable work. Indeed, her leadership is a testament to what dedicated governance can achieve, and many residents, myself included, are outraged at the council's lack of foresight.We demand the council revert to the original re-election process. This process has historically allowed sitting mayors to be re-elected by the will of the people, ensuring continuity in leadership when it is most needed. We urge every member of our town to support this petition and the ongoing efforts to ensure our town continues to thrive under her stewardship. Let's hold Withernsea Town Councillors to account.
